Winning with Mark Cuban

Here is a guy – Mark Cuban – who unofficially attended graduate business school classes (MBA courses) while in college at Indiana University just to get a little extra knowledge, a little extra edge in business a little extra audacity.

Hoosier chutzpah, wouldn’t you say?

So, what can Mark Cuban tell us years later, and billions later, about business and life?

EFFORT

Mark Cuban’s blog, BlogMaverick.com, consists of a running history of Cuban’s thoughts on just about everything on his mind at one time or another. The blog has now become a consolidated mashup for his eBook.

If there is one valuable quote or takeaway that you need from Mark Cuban’s eBook "How to Win at the Sport of Business" it is this one:

“In sports, the only thing a player can truly control is effort. The same applies to business. The only thing any entrepreneur, salesperson or anyone in any position can control is their effort.”

Yes, it is simple as one word: effort. No big deal. Nothing too complex. Anyone can do it.

Now anyone can say this ("effort") and many have. But it is especially impactful when someone who has applied it and made it underscores the statement.

DIRK

Think about think about the concept of effort relative to Dallas Maverick’s star forward Dirk Nowitzki. Dirk is always about effort. That is why he is now an NBA chamption and will be in the Hall of Fame. You don’t score over 20 PPG over the course of a long NBA without effort.

Mark Cuban loves the game-by-game effort delivered from Dirk Nowitzki.

ZERO

Mark Cuban should do commercials for Coke Zero: he started at zero. Now he is at billions.

When people hear the cliché “rags-to-riches story” these days there is certainly some skepticism applied. But here is a guy (Cuban) that has actually done it. That makes him worth listening to from time to time. You don’t have to agree with him, but his thought process might be helpful to your thought process.

ALL MARK ALL THE TIME

Mark Cuban: A guy that does what he wants and says what he wants whenever he wants it.
